H. pylori symptoms:
Helicobacter pylori is a bacteria found in 50% of people and has been linked to causing stomach ulcers, stomach cancer, and gastritis (inflammation of the stomach). Common symptoms of H. pylori infections are burning or aching in the abdominal region, especially worse on an empty stomach, nausea, indigestion, GERD, acid reflux, loss of appetite, burping, bloating and potentially weight loss or inability to gain weight. A big difference I notice clinically for my patients is that their nausea and indigestion are worse AWAY from food, like a gnawing pit in the stomach.
--> Breath test
--> Blood test
--> Stool test (my favorite and most sensitive)
Here is the good news, it can be relatively quick to treat. If someone does not have active peptic ulcers or positive virulence factors identified by stool testing, I tend to suggest natural treatments versus antibiotic treatments. Please defer to your doctor on the right and appropriate approach for you.
My treatment protocol is based off of a research study that had successful eradication of about 75% of H. pylori cases in 2 weeks with my own little twists and turns on their approach based on my clinical experience and treatment of MANY cases of H pylori over the years.
Please check out the article above, it is short and straight forward and exact products used are listed within. I do highly recommend working with a provider that specializes in gut health and treats H. pylori so you can eradicate it safely and quickly, as well as any other gut bugs that may be living alongside this bacteria (hint hint - candida and SIBO).
Please also note that H. pylori can be spread via saliva and shared amongst the household. Without fail I will treat someone and have a negative test to later find they were re-infected by their spouse or partner. Food for thought.
If you are struggling with your GERD and indigestion symptoms please know I do have an ebook guide available to start taking control of your health and symptoms today from the comfort of your own home! If you are interested in testing H. pylori and getting to the root cause of your symptoms, please note I am accepting new patients!
