What is functional medicine?"The Functional Medicine model is an individualized, patient-centered, science-based approach that empowers patients and practitioners to work together to address the underlying causes of disease and promote optimal wellness. It requires a detailed understanding of each patient’s genetic, biochemical, and lifestyle factors and leverages that data to direct personalized treatment plans that lead to improved patient outcomes. By addressing root cause, rather than symptoms, practitioners become oriented to identifying the complexity of disease. They may find one condition has many different causes and, likewise, one cause may result in many different conditions. As a result, Functional Medicine treatment targets the specific manifestations of disease in each individual. -
Why should I pick GHT for my wellness care?Katie Morra has worked with thousands of patients on their gut health, hormone and overall wellness healing and goals. She has reviewed hundreds and hundreds of lab results and patient care plans. Over years of clinical experience she has formulated tried and true base protocols that she uses with her patients. Each protocol is then tailored to that individuals health care needs and case. Katie has been seen as the expert in gut healing in her field and has trained every medical provider and nutritionist she has worked with and for in the past.
-
Do you accept insurance? Some of our clients have received a portion of their care from GHT covered by their insurance. We will provide you with a superbill at the end of appointments upon request so that you may contact your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Please note that we do not provide superbills for lab work and we do not submit paperwork to your insurance company on your behalf. In our prior experience with insurance based functional medicine practices, we have found that in order to stay viable, it requires a high volume of patients and unnecessary use of labs, procedures and frequent appointments. This often leaves the patient receiving far less attention and care than they deserve, as well as many hidden fees the practice may not have made clear to you from the start. While cheaper based on list price, it is our opinion that that the underlying costs of this type of care cancels out those savings. We also feel this keeps the patients in a mentality of "I am sick" versus "I am healing" to have to see your health care providers this often. At Gut Honest Truth, you will be our main priority and deserve the attention and care that your health and wellness needs and deserve. We only make recommendations for functional medicine testing and supplements based on what we feel is in your best interest.
-
Can I use my HSA/FSA card?Yes, many of our clients have successfully used their HSA and FSA funds to purchase their functional medicine consultations as well as for lab kits to look for imbalances in their gut health (SIBO, stool), thyroid, hormones and more!
-
Do you provide superbills?Yes, our providers will provide you with a superbill for appointments only upon request. We ask that this is done the day of your appointment.
-
Do you offer discovery calls? No, our team does not offer discovery calls. This means she has advanced and extensive training in: -> Hormone health issues such as thyroid, sex hormones and adrenal dysfunction -> Cardiometabolic issues such as Diabetes, hypertension, insulin resistance, obesity etc. -> Detoxification and optimizing elimination of heavy metals, mold and other environmental toxins -> Immune support, we see a wide variety of autoimmune conditions -> Healthy weight and nutrition -> Histamine intolerance, environmental allergies and much more If you have specific questions about your particular health condition, please use our contact form to reach out and see if working with us is the right fit!
-
What can I expect outside of nutrition counseling?Katie is one of about 30 nutritionists world-wide that are certified by the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM). This training is the identical training to all medical professionals that attended IFM. This means she has extensive training and experience with both traditional and functional lab work, supplement protocols and lifestyle protocols. Kira Guarino has also completed training via the Institute for Functional Medicine. The largest difference in working with GHT versus a physician is that we do not prescribe medication or treat emergency or acute medical conditions. We recommend you continue working with your primary care physician alongside our care. At GHT we work with you in-depth to order and review your functional medicine lab work that is appropriate for your case. You will gain access to pharmaceutical grade, top quality supplements at an affordable price. You will work through individualized diet and lifestyle plans which will all be accessible to you in your own private patient portal. All with one goal in mind, to get you feeling healthy and providing you with the tools to be able to maintain that health on your own.
-
Can you prescribe medications? As a registered dietitian and nutrition we do not prescribe medication to clients. We recommend that you continue with your primary care for a minimum of your yearly check ups and sick visits. If we feel you may benefit from medication, we will refer you to a practitioner appropriate for the condition or recommend that you speak to your primary care or specialist. We have great success without prescribing medication at our practice and often find that supplements, lifestyle and diet alone are more successful for many of the conditions we treat than medications may be.
-
Why do your provider fees differ in price? The costs may vary based on the providers educational background, advanced trainings and years of functional medicine experience. All Gut Honest Truth providers are trained under Katie Morra and are exceptional at what they do. All cases are run by Katie and discussed in a collaborative manner because at GHT we acknowledge that having multiple view points and eyes on your health yields significantly better outcomes.
