Is the Idea of Healing Morphing Into a Trend?
This is not to belittle or disregard peoples’ need to heal; it's that we've developed an almost obsessive preoccupation with the idea of healing ourselves- whether emotional, physical, or otherwise.
We’re constantly inundated with available information and a barrage of “do’s and don'ts,” books, social media posts, protocols, tips and tricks, hacks, all promising to guide us towards a state of wholeness. And yet, despite our best efforts, many of us feel trapped in a cycle of striving, doubting if healing is possible.
Maybe you've experienced this firsthand or observed it in a loved one—the endless cycle of protocols and treatments that seem to lead nowhere but frustration. You see a provider, get some symptom relief, but then everything feels like it falls right back where it was. So, you see another provider, and the same thing happens again. All of the sudden you’re stuck in a groundhog day of healing from your ongoing health concerns and symptoms.
If we looked at this through a different lens, would we potentially observe that part of the perpetual “healing” cycle is because you are in part consumed by the very idea of healing itself?
After over a decade of care, it’s become clear that an individual’s healing process is prolonged when one loses trust in our bodies. Each setback further undermines this trust, weakening your belief in the body's resilience and impeding your progress. Until we confront this lack of trust, your journey to healing remains uncertain, weighed down by doubt in your body's innate ability to heal.
After countless attempts to address your ailments, it's understandable how doubt can creep in. You may have unwittingly developed a subconscious belief that your body is somehow incapable of healing itself. But here's the thing: healing isn't just about following a set of protocols or treatments—it's about making a conscious choice to trust in your body's innate ability to heal.
Healing isn't a straightforward journey—it's complex and deeply individual and most important, almost never linear. It demands that we pause, tune into our bodies, and have faith in the process's wisdom. Crucially, it necessitates acknowledging your ability to heal, because without that belief, you’re relying solely on hope.
On this journey, it's crucial to remember one fundamental truth: you are not broken. You don't require fixing, and your life doesn't necessarily need a complete overhaul. Rather, it's about growth, change, and adjustment.
These words aren't synonymous with fixing; they signify evolution, a natural progression towards becoming the best version of yourself. The notion of "fixing things" can inadvertently imply that you're somehow inadequate or unworthy, which couldn't be further from the truth.
So, the next time you find yourself caught up in the whirlwind of protocols and treatments, take a moment to pause and reflect. Ask yourself: do I truly trust in my body's ability to heal? And if not, what steps can I take to cultivate that trust?
Remember, healing isn't about doing more—it's about trusting more. It's about letting go of the need to control and allowing yourself to surrender to the process. And sometimes that process needs to look like reconditioning yourself, re-patterning your beliefs, becoming literate in your nervous system needs, and slowing down to a pace that your body properly responds to.
However, it's important to acknowledge that healing isn't solely an individual responsibility. Sometimes, the onus falls on the provider you're working with. They may not be approaching things correctly for your body.
What to Consider When Working with Your Provider:
Seeking Out Magic Pills and Quick Fixes:
Healing takes time and effort, whether it's through allopathic or holistic approaches. There's no shortcut.
Infrequent Appointments or Delaying Care:
Regular check-ins with your provider are crucial for progress. Aim for sessions every 2-4 weeks initially.
Staying with The Wrong Fit:
Like dating, finding the right provider is essential. Don't hesitate to seek a second or third opinion if needed.
Bouncing Around:
Switching providers frequently due to frustration won't expedite healing. It's a journey that requires patience.
Self-Treating:
Avoid starting or stopping protocols without consulting your provider. Consistency is key for effective treatment.
Healing is a journey of trust, both in yourself and your provider. You should feel safe asking/conversing with your provider and have a full understanding of the reasoning for things being suggested. Trust in your body's ability to heal, but also recognize when changes are necessary in your approach or provider.
It requires patience, trust, and sometimes, a shift in perspective. And while that seems overwhelming, we’ve found that the people that find peace in their lives are the ones that let go of restrictions and limiting beliefs that keep them in small boxes.
